Talking about fairytale, it’s remembered me to a fairy story from Java island. Actually, it doesn’t called fairytale, but a folktale.
This folktale is tell about a son who fall in love with his own mother and he want to get married with her. The son named Sangkuriang. This folktale from West Java. I know its when I was in elementary school.
Dayang Sumbi is Sangkuriang’s mother, and his father is a dog that Dayang Sumbi maintained. One day, Sangkuriang back home without the dog, in fact, he was played with the dog in a forest near the house. Dayang Sumbi was mad. She beated Sangkuriang and chased him.
After several years passed, Sangkuriang returned to his hometown. He met Dayang Sumbi in there. Sangkuriang fell in love with her that was his own mother. He want to get married with Dayang Sumbi and she accepted it because she didn’t know that the boy is Sangkuriang, her son.
When she tied up Sangkuriang’s turban, she knew that he was her son through his scar. At last. Dayang Sumbi offered term before they married. Sangkuriang must mable a dyke in one night. Sangkuriang agreed with that. With helped from his genies, he could made the dyke. Before it had finished, Dayang Sumbi asked the societies in her village to make a false sun with the red cloth. Sangkuriang supposed that morning was come. So, he can’t married with Dayang Sumbi. Sangkuriang was fed up. He kicked a boat until its lie down prostated. And the boat that means become a mountain called Tangkuban Parahu now.
We can learn from this folktale. We shouldn’t have forced upon our will to someone else. If they do not want to, we must understand it.
